In Writing is dedicated to sculpting your writing into its finest form.
Whether it's proofreading, line editing, copy editing, or just the critical gaze of an expert eye, every piece of writing can find its feet and flourish. Our editing service is open to all forms of writing, from fiction to essays, query letters to memoir.

What does In Writing editing involve?
Dedicated to not only proofreading and editing your writing, but also helping you achieve your goals and develop as a writer in the process, In Writing offers a bespoke editing service designed to polish your work to a professional standard.
-
Editing: in-depth dissection of your manuscript, working on syntax, structure, word choice, and all the other crucial areas which make strong and compelling writing, delivering coherence and flow to your project
-
Proofreading: complete grammar and spelling overhaul, smoothing out your prose to improve style and readability
-
Commentary: providing a commentary on the issues, how and why changes are made, and providing you with all the tools you need to learn from the editing process and become a better writer
-
Formatting: ensuring your manuscript meets industry standards in all areas of formatting - titles, margins, numbering, font, typeface, spacing
Editing is in UK English, using Track Changes in Microsoft Office Word, so that you can clearly see every alteration and comment in your manuscript, before they are accepted. This process means you have final veto on any and all edits, allowing you to retain creative control over your project, and manage changes with ease.
Services
In Writing offers three different editing services, specifically tailored to the project:
The Writer Behind the Words
Writer and editor Alisdair L R I Hodgson holds a Master of Letters in Creative Writing, and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in English and Philosophy (first class). As a freelance editor and Editor-in-Chief of Bandit Fiction literary magazine, he works with a diverse variety of individuals and companies, delivering the highest grade of client-focused editing and proofreading. His fiction and poetry can be found in a plethora of anthologies, magazines and journals, both on and offline. (A few examples are included in links below).

Editing (up to 6,000 words)
In Writing's flagship editing service, designed for works of fiction, memoir, and creative non-fiction.
This service transforms your writing into the best it can possibly be, offering detailed editing for all aspects of your project. Amongst other things, this service focuses on structure, formatting, grammar, plot, character and coherency, editing the manuscript to an exceptional standard whilst providing commentary on the process - developing you as a writer, not just your manuscript.

Proofreading (up to 4,500 words)
Proofreading designed to tidy, polish and hone essays, academic works and professional writings.
This service focuses on the nitty gritty of what makes good, clean, professional writing, tackling grammar, structure and presentation. As a bespoke and needs-based service, each project is approached individually - meaning this may also involve rewrites (in query letters, for example) or detailed commentary from the editor.
